Day 2 ✅ Understanding Overshoot and Environmental Realities

Overshoot occurs when humanity's demand on nature exceeds what Earth can regenerate within a year. This concept highlights the urgent need to address environmental issues such as climate change, resource depletion, and biodiversity loss. Day 2 focused on exploring this critical topic through interactive discussions and collaborative research.

Intro to the Day + Energizers:
The day began with energizers to activate participants and set a positive tone for the activities ahead.

🌍 World Café - Overshoot:
In this interactive session, participants engaged in a World Café discussion to explore the concept of overshoot. They tackled six cornerstone questions related to environmental challenges such as climate change, resource depletion, loss of biodiversity, and pollution. Small group discussions encouraged the exchange of perspectives, followed by a facilitator-led debrief to consolidate insights and establish a shared understanding of the problem.

📽️ What is Overshoot Day?:
Participants watched a video explaining Overshoot Day and its implications, including how the date changes yearly based on country-specific consumption patterns. They then researched their own country’s Overshoot Day and compared results with others, fostering a deeper awareness of global disparities and the urgent need for sustainability.

💧 Presentation of National Realities:
In the afternoon, participants worked in national teams to present their pre-prepared research on resource deployment, focusing specifically on water usage and environmental issues in their countries. These presentations provided a comparative overview of how different EU/MED nations exploit natural resources and highlighted common challenges and unique approaches. Discussions encouraged critical thinking and mutual learning.

🏭 Reflection Groups – Factory of Learning:
In their reflection groups, participants evaluated their learning experiences through the structured "Factory of Learning" method, answering questions about their contributions, emotions, and takeaways from the day. This reflective exercise strengthened their understanding of the activities and their personal growth.

🌍 Intercultural Night:
The evening celebrated cultural diversity with another Intercultural Night, where participants shared traditional foods, music, and dances from their countries. This lively event reinforced the importance of unity and respect for cultural differences.

Final Thoughts:
Day 2 deepened participants’ understanding of overshoot and environmental challenges while fostering collaboration through national presentations and interactive discussions. The blend of learning, reflection, and cultural celebration made for an impactful and inspiring day.
